Woodward, Okla. — Christian bands Barlow Girl, Stellar Kart and VOTA will perform in concert at 7 p.m. March 27 at the Woodward High School Auditorium to raise funds for The Pregnancy Center, an agency that provides help to expectant and new mothers in the area.
All three groups are showing together in the Love & War Tour.
“They’ve been very popular,” said Belva Mabra, The Pregnancy Center director. “Youths have been telling me they’re pretty excited about the groups. Half want to see Barlow Girl and half want to see Stellar Kart.”
“VOTA is a new band, so I don’t know very much about them,” Mabra said.
Barlow Girl -- a band of three sisters whose last name is Barlow -- has been known since 2004, when the group made its debut, according to the website barlowgirl.com.
The band from Elgin, Ill., has been nominated for 10 Christian music awards and is known for the popular Christian song, “Never Alone,” the website states.
Stellar Kart is a Christian pop punk band from Phoenix, Ariz.. The band released its first album in February 2000. Some singles include “All Gas. No Brake,” “Finish Last,” and “Life is Good,” according to their website, stellarkart.com.
Their single, “Me and Jesus,” hit No. 1 for seven weeks on the Hot Christian Songs chart and won a Christian music award in 2007, the website states.
VOTA, formerly known as Casting Pearls comes from Lincoln, Neb., and features Bryan Olsen, who was a popular artist with the Christian rock band Newsboys. VOTA is a Latin root word that stands for a collection of vows before God, according to their website, votaband.com.
The Pregnancy Center holds a concert featuring Christian bands every year to raise money to help defray operating costs.
“It’s a way you can give back to the community, because Woodward doesn’t often have that kind of thing,” she said of the upcoming concert. “It also lets people hear about us."
The Pregnancy Center offers free pregnancy tests, parenting classes, lay counseling and material assistance for expectant mothers and new parents, Mabra said. It is dependent on donations and grants and fundraisers.
