Woodward, Okla. —
In celebration of Lent, the Woodward Ministerial Alliance will be holding its annual series of weekly lunches at the St. John's Episcopal Church every Wednesday of Lent.
"Each week a different area pastor from the Ministerial Alliance will preach and their church will provide a delicious meal. It is a fantastic way to help focus and center ourselves in the middle of the day," said Becky Pierson, president of the Ministerial Alliance. "Lent is a time of reflection and restoration, a time to ask yourself 'Are there things I need to work on or that I need to work on for God?' and these lenten lunches are a way we can do that."
Each meeting will be under an hour and will include music, prayer, scripture, as well as a message.
"This will give attendees a chance to worship, eat lunch, and make it back in time for work. Its a great thing for people who've never done anything with Lent before, this will help people get in the spirit," Pierson said.
The money raised during the lunches will go towards a good cause.
"The lunch is free, but we'll take up an offerings during services that'll go into out Benevolence fund," Pierson said. "The money in that fund goes towards helping the needy in town who are unable to make rent or pay bills, or for someone coming through town whose run out of gas or needs a hotel room for a night. Its hard for some of those churches who cant afford to give out that much money, so this Benevolence fund really helps out."
The lunch meetings will take place at noon every Wednesday between Feb. 13 and March 30. St. John's Episcopal Church is located at the corner of 10th and Texas..
Organizations interested in helping out the cause by providing a lunch for the congregation are encouraged to contact Pierson at 254-3771 for more information.
