County to dispose of equipment, tour juvenile detention center

Woodward, Okla. — Woodward County Commissioners will be doing some house cleaning on Monday as they consider disposing of a variety of equipment from several county departments.

The commissioners will meet at 10 a.m. Monday in the county courthouse.

Since the commissioners are looking to dispose of the equipment at a statewide auction, they must first take action on the Circuit Engineering District auction policies.

County Clerk Charolett Waggoner explained, "There's 2 statewide auctions held twice a year, one is in Elk City and the other is in McAlester.  For items to be placed in the auction, this agreement needs to be signed saying the commissioners will abide by the rules of the auction."

After addressing the auction policies, the county board will consider consigning the following items to be sold at the statewide Elk City auction:

• a rubber tire pull type packer which has been in the possession of District 3 for quite some time and is currently nonfunctional according to District 3 Commissioner Vernie Matt;

• surplus equipment consisting of old tables and chairs from the Health Department;

• a 1998 Chevy half ton pickup a and a 2003 Chevy three-quarter ton pickup which District 1 is hoping to replace;

• a 1991 Ford Explorer from the Sheriff's department;

• and a pettibone vibratory roller that is co-owned by Districts 1 and 2.

Besides disposing of equipment, the county board will also act on obtaining a piece of new equipment as they open sealed bids for a 2013 or newer forklift for the landfill.

Also on Monday, the county commissioners plan to make their annual visit to the Northwest Oklahoma Juvenile Detention Center.

"That's their annual tour of the facility. They go down and make sure everything is up to par and that the facility is adequate," Waggoner said.

In other business, the commissioners will act on a request from DCP Midstream for 2 utility permits for directional boring.

"That's kind of a routine thing," Waggoner said.  "Each time they drill under county roadway they have to file for the utility permit. The first area they'll be drilling is southwest of Woodward in District 2, and the second is in District 3 and is also southwest of Woodward."

The board will also hear a request from Northwestern Electric Cooperative for a utility permit to cross over a county roadway in District 1 southeast of Mooreland.

Commissioners are also slated to consider appointing Todd Mason to the Woodward County Free Fair Board representing District 2.
