Commissioners approve Stanley's response

Commissioners for Woodward County have approved Sheriff Gary Stanley’s response to the state Health Department regarding two violations found at the jail.

According to a letter from the Health Department dated Jan. 13, the jail was found to be in violation of safety regulations because inmates had put paper over light fixtures in their cells.

It was also found to be overcrowded by housing 12 inmates over its 41-bed capacity.

Stanley said Monday he would respond that the paper had been removed and that the overcrowding would be taken care of when the new jail is completed.

Construction for the jail, which is expected to take about two years, will begin in March or April, according to the sheriff.

The response will be forwarded to the Health Department.

In other business, the county approved monthly highway expenditures in the amount of $937.161.

Under new business, the commissioners addressed a request from a landowner who wants to develop residential property near the county landfill east of Woodward. The commissioners didn't act on the request because the landowner didn't have all the proper paperwork.
