Marlin Trissel was voted into the position of board president during the Woodward Public School Board of Education regular meeting Monday evening.
Board member Roxy Merklin is the new vice president.
During the meeting Woodward Middle School eighth grade English Teacher Amy Whitewater and WMS student Devin Wilson were recognized for receiving awards in recent contests sponsored by the Veteran’s of Foreign War.
Michelle McDonald and students from the Woodward High School ACT Prep/ college readiness class were also recognized for mentoring Woodward’s elementary and middle school students.
Principals of Woodward’s elementary, middle and high schools presented, in writing, their respective activity account funds, and were present for any questions posed by the board.
Terry Kerr gave a construction update on the Early Childhood Center, three elementary sites, hitting/ weight room facility and the upcoming agriculture education building. Kerr also presented a landscape design for the ECC which he said is “comprised of all native materials.”
Staying with the environmentally-friendly concepts being used throughout the new facility, buffalo grass will be planted. Kerr said the grass needs very little water, and goes along with the school being Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certified.
Also during the meeting financial secretary Lesa Tune went over the financial status of the district and updated the board on the building bond figures. The treasurer’s report and financial reports were approved as well as all other consent agenda items.
The board then voted to go into executive session to discuss the reemployment of assistant superintendent Tom Fisher, elementary school principal Petra Sullender, high school principal Kirk Warnick, high school assistant principal Angela Rhoades, high school assistant principal Kyle Reynolds, middle school south principal Frank Harrington, middle school north principal Diana Ball, middle school assistant principal Aaron Marlatt and athletic director Andy Newby.
They also discussed the reemployment of elementary principal Sharon Yeager, elementary principal Maggie Sander, Westwood principal Debbie Jones, alternative education director Ken Williams, instructional technology director Bryan Stephenson, special education director Rowena Roach, instructional facilitator Debbie Harrington, instructional facilitator Sandy Johnson, instructional facilitator Susan Viles and director of assessment Kaye Groce.
All votes concerning employment of the various administrators were unanimously approved.
The board also approved the bid for sale of property at 1013 Main Street, a steel erection contract at the hitting/ weight room facility to Neufeld Construction in the amount of $20,750 and and agreement and E-Rate funding request for 2010-2011.
