Gas prices starting to drop in state

Woodward, Okla. — OKLAHOMA CITY - Compared to prices on Oct. 1, unleaded fuel prices in Woodward have fallen between 9 and 16 cents. That's according to AAA Oklahoma and GasBuddy.com.

Fuel in town that was running as high as $3.79 per gallon on Oct. 1 was going for $3.58 Tuesday, according to AAA.

Prices in Woodward  ranged from $2.58 to $3.65, according to reports on gasbuddy.com.

PRICE FALL PROBABLY ONGOING

Chuck Mai, Vice President-Public Affairs for AAA, believes the trend of falling prices will continue through the end of the year.

Unleaded regular was at $3.346 on average in Tulsa Tuesday, and $3.485 in Oklahoma City. The statewide average came in at $3.48.

He said 14 of AAA's primary 15 cities it monitors experienced some reduction in prices as of Tuesday. The lone exception was Guymon, which saw an .004 of a cent rise.

Leading the decrease was Tulsa, which went down .149 of a cent, followed by  Bartlesville, with a .142-cent fall.

Enid's average Tuesday was $3.530, a decrease of .098 of a cent from last week.

"Those lower prices in the 2 big cities put pressure on local retailers to bring prices down," Mai said, "Conditions are right for the price drop to continue. Supply is up, demand is down, no hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico and no bombing of Iran."

He found the 14-cent difference per gallon between Oklahoma City and Tulsa a curious happening

"They're normally within 4 or 5 cents of each other either way," Mai said. "It might be time to take some extra tanks to Tulsa and fill them up."

RECENT CHANGES IN OKLAHOMA

A Senior Petroleum Analyst for GasBuddy.com, Patrick DeHaan, reported that Oklahoma prices this week averaged 18.1 cents higher than a year ago, but were 25.6 cents lower than a month ago.

"The national average, at $3.77 per gallon this week, was a 9.0-cent drop over last month and a 2.8-cent decrease compared to last week, but it's still 29.6 cents higher than last year," he said.

DeHaan took a look at the current gasoline situation in California when explaining its role in the Oklahoma and national price decreases.

"There hasn't been a massive decline, but the rise has stopped, and that has helped tip the national average lower," he said.
