Woodward, Okla. — Several Northwest Oklahoma communities have activities planned over the next couple weeks to celebrate the Christmas season.



SATURDAY, DEC. 1

Buffalo - At noon free hotdogs and drinks will be served near the Buffalo Theatre, with Santa set to arrive at 1:30 p.m. to give candy treats, hear what kids want for Christmas, and have their photo taken with him.  Families can also enjoy a free screening of a Christmas movie starting at 1:30 p.m. at the Buffalo Theatre.  Then at 6 p.m., the community gathers for the lighting of its Christmas Tree and other holiday lights at Stone City Park.

Mooreland - Starting at 3 p.m. at City Park, children can visit with Santa, get candy treats and have photos taken with him.  More information is available by calling Mooreland City Hall at (580) 994-5924.

Fairview - Buyers may take advantage of "tax-free" shopping from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Fairview community merchants. Then at 6 p.m. at the Major County Fairgrounds, kids can visit with Santa, get candy treats and have their photo taken with him.  The celebration will culminate with a fireworks display over the fairgrounds at 7 p.m. Get all the details by calling the Fairview Chamber of Commerce at (580) 227-2527.



WEDNESDAY, DEC. 5

Laverne - The Laverne Christmas Parade will start at 3:30 p..m., with floats traveling east from the football field,  then looping back around to the town park.  Lighted entrees are being accepted right up to starting time. There's no theme, but no Santa Clauses are allowed on the floats. Community residents will judge the entries. There is an entry fee, to benefit Laverne economic develop programs, and the top 3 finishers, based on the best decorations, will share $500.

Also on Dec. 1 in Laverne, there will be a drawing for 6 huge dollar signs, the public can enter free to receive a chance to win a share of well over $1,000.

The Chamber is also selling personalized community bricks, to mark Laverne's 100th Anniversary happening early next year. Sales will close Dec. 31, and proceeds also go to Laverne Main Street economic development plans.

SATURDAY, DEC. 8

Waynoka - Shoppers can take advantage of "tax-free" holiday bargains at Waynoka businesses throughout the day, leading up to the lighted Christmas parade at 6 p.m. The theme of the parade is "Light the Good Heart." No sales taxes will be charged at the merchants, and the parade may be entered right up to starting time on Main Street downtown. Out-of-town residents will be doing the judging, for which the top 3 places will divide $500 cash prizes. Mooreland -  Santa appears again at  3 p.m. at Mooreland City Park with goodies for the kids.



SUNDAY, DEC. 9

Laverne - The holiday parade of homes will begin at 5:30 p.m. by meeting at the Laverne Chamber office before visiting 5 festive homes.  Tickets for the tour must be purchased in advance by contacting the Laverne Chamber at (580) 921-3612 to make a reservation before Dec. 8.  Proceeds from the tour will benefit Laverne Main Street development programs.



WEDNESDAY, DEC. 12

Shattuck - The annual Christmas parade will be held at 6 p.m. on Dec. 12 in downtown Shattuck.

The theme of this year's parade, which will feature lighted floats, will be "Parade of Trees."

Entry categories are floats, bicycles, golf carts, motorcycles, car riders and walkers, with over $400 in cash prizes being awarded for the top floats in each category.

SUNDAY, DEC. 16

Freedom - All activities will be held at Freedom Schools. From 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., a silent auction will be held featuring homemade items such as woodcrafts and canned foods. At 2:45 p.m., the faithful will gather for a community church service. Around 3 p.m., Santa will appear to give candy treats and be available for photos with the youngsters.
