County Fair to kick off Sunday with horse show

Woodward, Okla. — The Woodward County Fair will kick off Sunday with a horse show at the Woodward Fair-grounds.

Entries for the horse show will be at 2 p.m. with the classes starting at 3 p.m.

The contest is divided up into 3 divisions: 4H, FFA and open.  Each of these divisions will then be divided into 3 main age groups: junior category for participants 9- to 11-years-old; intermediate for 12- to 14-year-olds; and senior for 15- to 18-year-olds. The open division will also have an age category for participants 8-years-old and under.

The fair will then continue Monday through Wednesday with a craft show.

Woodward County OSU Extension Educator Dana Bay said there is all sorts of art categories to enter.

“If you can create a craft, you can find a category to enter it in,” Bay said, noting categories include crops, flowers, photography and fine arts.

In addition, fair activities on Tuesday and Wednesday will include livestock shows and exhibits featuring pigs, chickens, rabbits, sheep, goats and cattle.

“My favorite portion of the fair is the livestock shows, but I enjoy the parts as well and I think everyone else will too,” Bay said.

She said the fair usually brings in a crowd of around 300  people each year.
