Celebration ready to get started

Mix two full days of entertainment, some top country artists and a former president and you have Let Freedom Ring 2009.

Woodward has jumped back into the Independence Day celebration with a bang.

George W. Bush, the 43rd President of the United States, highlights the weekend. Bush will give an Independence Day address on Saturday inside the refurbished Crystal Beach Stadium.

While the highlight, the former president’s visit isn’t the only thing happening.

Country artists like Tanya Tucker, Asleep at the Wheel, Marty Stuart and Sawyer Brown will perform during the weekend.

Ticket information for the stadium events is available at letfreedomring2009.com.

While the President’s address and the country shows are ticketed events, the majority of things going on at Crystal Beach Park over the two days are free.

A kids play area with inflatables is available both days and the band shell will be alive with entertainers from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.

A Little Queen and King Contest for youngsters 5 and under is set for Friday.

Another anticipated highlight on Saturday is the opening of the new Aquatic Center. A ceremony is set for 9:30 a.m. and the park is open for free swimming most of the day. Sessions are at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. with 500 people being allowed to swim free during each session.

Also on Saturday is a 5K run, community pancake breakfast, free hot dogs for lunch and, of course, the Ambucs turtle races which start at 10 a.m.
