Charges filed in shooting case

Dale Harper, 39, of Quinlan has been officially charged with assault with a deadly weapon in the alleged shooting of a 50-year-old man, who also is from Quinlan, according to Sheriff Gary Stanley.

Harper is being held on $250,000 bond in the Woodward County Jail.

The incident occurred Sunday night during an alleged scuffle between Harper and Kenneth Roberts, who had told Harper to leave his property, Stanley said.

Roberts, who lived near Quinlan, had a shotgun in his possession and a struggle between him and Harper allegedly occurred for the weapon, Stanley said.

Stanley said Harper allegedly pulled the trigger that led to the shooting of the victim in the leg, just above the knee.

The victim was mediflighted to the OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City, Stanley said, noting there “was a lot of blood at the scene.”

“A mother and her 13-year-old son were in the house at the time of the shooting,” he said.

Harper was charged before Associate District Judge Don Work.
