A 39-year-old Quinlan man is being held on $250,000 bond in the Woodward County Jail after shooting a 50-year-old man from Quinlan during a scuffle, according to Sheriff Gary Stanley.
Before the scuffle began about 10 p.m. Sunday, the perpetrator of the shooting, Dale Harper, had been told to leave the property of Kenneth Roberts at a location near Quinlan, Stanley said.
Roberts had a shotgun in his possession when he told Harper to leave, and Harper struggled with Roberts to get the shotgun away from him, according to witness accounts, Stanley said.
“Harper was the one who fired the shot gun,” Stanley said.
The shooting victim, a witness to the incident, was mediflighted to the OU Medical Center, Stanley said, noting there appeared to be a lot of blood at the scene.
“We’re not releasing the name of the victim pending notification of relatives,” he said.
“A mother and her 13-year-old son were in the house at the time of the shooting,” he said.
Harper had not been formally charged Monday afternoon but was expected to make an appearance before Associate District Judge Don Work soon.
