Charges filed in robbery

A man has been charged with first degree robbery, uttering a forged instrument and petit larceny (a misdemeanor) stemming from a weekend robbery at the Jiffy Trip on 25th Street in Woodward.

Aaron Seth Stanley, 21, is currently being held in the Woodward County Jail on the charges filed Monday in Woodward County District Court.

At 5:14 Saturday morning police received a call from a clerk at the Jiffy Trip. The clerk stated that he had just been robbed at knife point by a subject who was dressed in black.

Police arrived on the scene, but were unable to locate the suspect at that time.

Detective Lt. Chuck Wheeler of the Woodward Police Department said that once surveillance tape was reviewed, it was not long before police identified a suspect.

It was noted that the suspect was in the store earlier to cash a check. From the check, officers were able to get a name and address.

Wheeler said officers went to the address and were greeted by Stanley’s grandmother. Stanley was home and when officers entered his room Wheeler said they noticed “a black tote bag with cash in it.”

Upon further investigation more cash was allegedly found on Stanley’s person, Wheeler said.

Detective Mike Morton interviewed Stanley, who allegedly confessed (to the robbery), Wheeler said.

About $375 to $400 was stolen from the Jiffy Trip on Saturday morning Wheeler said.

The Jiffy Trip is not the first convenience station to be robbed this month. On June 9 the Honk-N-Holler was also robbed. Wheeler said there is no connection between the two robberies, but a trend might be developing.

“In Woodward we are starting to see things of this nature,” Wheeler said about the two robberies occurring less than two weeks apart.

He also mentioned that there has been a jump in the number of car burglaries that have occurred in the city.

“Please take your valuables out of your vehicles and lock them,” he said. “It’s kind of an open invitation when you don’t.”
