State Rep. Kris Steele, R-Shawnee, will be the guest speaker for Monday’s Woodward Chamber of Commerce meeting.
Chamber President C. J. Montgomery is excited to be welcoming Steele who he said “may very well be the next Speaker of the House.”
“It’s always great to bring legislative leaders to Woodward,” he said.
In addition to being an opportunity for Woodward to “put our best foot forward” for the state leader, Montgomery noted that it is also an opportunity to hear about some of Steele’s work in the legislature over the past eight years.
“He (Steele) has been very active with the healthcare initiative within the legislature; he’s a very active legislator,” Montgomery said.
According to a biographical release about Steele, he has played a part in developing the “Rx for Oklahoma” plan and the “Smart Card” program, which are both designed to help Oklahomans better access and afford prescription drugs.
In addition, Kris has been appointed to numerous boards and commissions throughout his time in the House, to which he was first elected in November 2000. Currently, he serves as a member of the Oklahoma Developmental Disabilities Planning Council, Governor’s Transformation Advisory Board, Strategic Planning Committee on the Olmstead Decision, and the Twenty First Century Health Education and Research Oklahoma Task Force. Kris also co-chairs the Children and Juvenile Law Reform Committee and the Legislative Cancer Caucus.
Besides hearing from Steele, Chamber members who attend Monday’s luncheon will also receive a report from the Woodward Relay for Life organizers who are busy preparing for the Relay for Life event, which will be held June 19 at Woodward High School’s Boomer Stadium.
Montgomery said Chamber members are also in for a special treat this Monday as JB’s Steak House will be catering the meal, “which is something kind of new.”
The Chamber luncheon will begin at 11:45 a.m. Monday in the Pioneer Room.
