Plea agreement in Jimenez case?

A plea agreement has possibly been reached in the negligent homicide case against Luis Miguel Jimenez.

Jimenez was charged with four misdemeanor counts of negligent homicide last July for his role in an accident that left four people dead in Oct. 2007.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol accident report, Jimenez was driving a semi northwest bound along Highway 270 on Oct. 23, 2007 when he failed to stop for a line of traffic stopped in a construction zone, causing a six-vehicle collision.

The drivers and passengers of two of those vehicles were pronounced dead at the scene. They were Debra Diane Green, 54, of Seiling; Roger Daily Green, 60, of Seiling; Arthur Adam Hebert, 73, of Anniston, Ala.; and Joann Singleton Hebert, 64, of Anniston, Ala.

A status hearing had been scheduled for Friday in Jimenez’s case in preparation for a non-jury trial that had been set for June 25.

However, at the request of Jimenez’s attorney, Assistant District Attorney A. J. Laubhan said the status hearing was held Thursday instead.

During that hearing, “the trial date was stricken,” Laubhan said, noting that the case has now been “set for plea on Wednesday, June 24.”

“His attorney has announced that at time he intends to enter a plea,” the assistant district attorney said.

However, Laubhan said he couldn’t confirm that a plea agreement has been reached since Jimenez hasn’t entered the plea yet.

But, he did say that “we’ve made an offer and he’s said he’s accepted.”

Jimenez is set to appear in court at 4 p.m. on June 24.
