A Hennessey man has died from injuries he sustained in an accident in Woodward Monday afternoon.
Mark Hardesty, 39, died Monday at Woodward Regional Hospital where he was transported following the accident, according to Woodward Police Sgt. Terry Coleman, who investigated the accident.
Hardesty, who was hauling a load of wood in a 1998 Freightliner, was traveling northwestbound along Highway 270 into Woodward when his semi struck a vehicle attempting to cross the highway as it traveled northbound along Lakeview Drive around 3:51 p.m. Monday, Coleman said.
The semi struck the passenger side of a 1996 Dodge pickup driven by Scott Shepherd, 45, of Woodward, the police sergeant said.
Shepherd “failed to yield . . . and pulled into the path of the semi and that’s what caused the collision,” Coleman said.
When police arrived on scene, Shepherd was already out of his pickup, Coleman said, noting “he got out on his own power.”
However, Woodward firefighters and EMS personnel had to extract Hardesty from the crumpled semi cab.
“Both were transported to Woodward Regional Hospital,” Coleman said, noting that he believed Shepherd was later released after being treated for head, arm and internal trunk injuries.
The Woodward County Sheriff’s Office also assisted at the scene, directing traffic around the accident, which closed the northwestbound lanes of Highway 270 for a time Monday afternoon.
