Woodward County Emergency Medical Service invites the public to an open house that will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at 1510 Downs.
“We’ll serve cookies and punch and have gifts for children,” said paramedic Marty Graham. “We’ll be showing off our six ambulances and our disaster trailer. The disaster trailer can handle up to 50 patients.”
Graham said the trailer is part of a statewide emergency disaster response plan.
The Woodward County EMS is in Region One and is one of eight regions in Oklahoma.
Buffalo EMS also will have a trailer at the open house for the public to tour.
“Their trailer isn’t as big as ours,” Graham said. “It’s capable of handling 15 to 20 patients.”
Graham said the open house was being held to mark the conclusion of EMS Week, which is being held from May 10 through Saturday.
“This open house will be held the final day of our week, and we want to open up to the public more,” he said. “Most people don’t realize we have six ambulances. Everyone one of them is used on a daily basis.”
Graham said Woodward County EMS in addition to the open house is working on getting county firefighters first responder training and that firefighters in Mooreland and Sharon are involved in a first responder course at High Plains Technology Center.
“It trains them how to take care of themselves while fighting a fire,” he said. “It helps them to be more of a benefit to the community from the medical aspect.”
