Woodward part of turkey hunt

Woodward will once again play a role in the annual Lt. Governor’s Turkey Hunt.

Woodward was of the original communities when the turkey hunt, designed to spur economic development opportunities in the state, was started under Lt. Gov. Robert Kerr 23 years ago.

This year Woodward will host 13 hunters and several other dignitaries, with visitors coming from both coasts, South Dakota, Texas, Colorado and other places.

“This is an excellent opportunity to visit with people from throughout the United States about the advantages of doing business in Northwest Oklahoma,” said LaVern Phillips, president of the Woodward Industrial Foundation.

Visitors will be hosted for an invitation reception tonight at Boiling Springs State Park and Lt. Gov. Jari Askins will visit Thursday for another reception.

Alva, Okemah, Duncan and Hugo are the other cities involved in the turkey hunt.
