A major winter storm is moving through the Oklahoma Panhandle and Northwest Oklahoma currently.
By 10 a.m. on Friday, Woodward had received mainly rain and sleet with a little snow mixed in. Heavy snow was expected to begin during the day and last until Saturday afternoon.
A good part of western Oklahoma remained under a blizzard warning until 1 p.m. on Saturday and the National Weather Service continued to say 12 inches or snow would be possible in far northwestern Oklahoma.
The weather service's mid-morning forecast said 3 to 7 inches were possible during the day Friday and another 4 to 8 inches on Friday night.
During the early morning hours, sleet was causing some accidents as Woodward fire and EMS responded to a rollover accident in the Mutual area southeast of Woodward and a van on its side at 34th and Downs in Woodward.
Travel is being discouraged as officials expect near white-out conditions in some areas.
To the northwest, power outages were reported in Buffalo along with some downed power poles.
In the western part of the Panhandle, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported it was closing U. S. Highway 64 from Guymon south to the New Mexico state line.
The OHP also reported an injury accident in Beaver County on U. S Highway 83 and a woman was taken to a hospital in Perryton, Texas.
Most schools throughout the area closed on Friday. Woodward was already out due to a professional day.
In addition, courthouses in Woodward, Harper and Beaver counties, among others, were closed.
A Plummer Family show scheduled for Saturday in the Woodward High School auditorium was postponed. Organizers said the show, a benefit for the Shriners, would be rescheduled.
