Whether you are looking to buy or sell, the biannual Woodward Townwide Garage Sale offers a great opportunity for both.
Interest and participation only increases as the townwide tradition continues in Woodward, according to Kathy Whenry, classifieds manager at the Woodward News.
The second edition of this year’s townwide sale, which is set for this Saturday, will be no exception, she said.
“It seems like there is more excitement around it,” Whenry said, noting that more people are getting an earlier start on advertising their sales and even businesses are getting involved.
“We’ve had lots of people calling and asking about it; calling, e-mailing, faxing,” she said. “There’s a lot of interest.”
Whenry suggested that high gas prices may be one reason behind the increased interest.
Since “it costs more to go out of town,” more people are enticed into staying closer to home to shop, she said.
And with a trend of higher quality items like antiques and collectibles making their way into garage sales, Whenry said shoppers can “get quality stuff and don’t have to go out of town to find it.”
With more shoppers looking for local bargains, this means greater sale opportunities for those hosting garage sales, she said, noting that some sellers have been known to “make $1,000 on their sales, or more.”
Basically, it’s a win-win situation for everyone involved, Whenry said.
Those wishing to participate in the townwide garage sale by hosting their own sales can contact the Woodward News for a special advertising rate.
A flat fee of $25 will allow you to run an ad with unlimited information in the Woodward News Classifieds, both online and in print, all week. You will also receive a garage sale kit, which includes pricing labels, sale signs, colorful balloons, a sales sheet and a rain check receipt in case bad weather disrupts your sale.
