New teachers join Fort Supply

When Fort Supply Schools’s teachers reported to the school for the first time this school year, there were three new faces in the crowd.

Fort Supply’s teachers first day on the job for the 2008-2009 school year was Tuesday.

New hire Britanie Welty comes to the district fresh from college. She graduated in May from Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva after attending high school in Freedom.

“It’s exciting to have your first job out of college,” Welty said of being hired by Fort Supply.

Welty will teach math to 7th through 12th grade students. Her classes will include 7th and 8th grade math, algebra I and II and trigonometry.

Amanda Wills, the more experienced of the new faces, is in her third year of teaching. She comes to Fort Supply after teaching for two years in Dodge City, Kan. Wills is a graduate of Oklahoma State University in Stillwater.

Wills said she is glad to be at Fort Supply.

“My husband took a job in Woodward,” she said. “It’s good to be back in Oklahoma.”

Wills will teach Agricultural Education to high school students. Her classes include introduction to agriculture, horticulture, natural resources and agricultural mechanics.

Chris Johnson is also beginning her teaching career at Fort Supply. Johnson graduated from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in May after attending Chisholm High School in Enid.

Johnson, along with Cherrie Fike, will team-teach Fort Supply’s new joint kindergarten and pre-kindergarten program. Johnson said she is excited to be a part of the unique, first-time program.

“I think it’s awesome, especially with me being a first-year teacher,” Johnson said. She added that working with Fike, an experienced teacher, will prove to be a “big benefit.”
