Lone Star Jubilee planned for Aug. 16

It’s time again for the annual gospel performance of The Lone Star Jubilee sponsored by the Woodward Fraternal Order of the Police.

Currently representatives of Haystack Productions, which produces the Jubilee, are selling tickets to the show, which is scheduled for Aug. 16 at 7:30 p.m. in the Woodward High School Auditorium.

FOP Secretary Billy Parker said the public should be advised that the Haystack representatives are contacting potential customers by phone.

He noted that the police have received several reports from concerned citizens who received calls from Haystack representatives and thought it might have been part of a scam.

Parker said the FOP wanted to reassure the citizens of Woodward that it is not a scam and the FOP really is presenting a gospel concert.

“We want to let the people know it is authorized and that the proceeds do go to the FOP,” he said.

However, if residents are receiving phone calls asking for donations rather than offering concert tickets, Parker said those donations are not for the Woodward FOP.

“We don’t call and ask for donations,” he said.

Although the FOP doesn’t solicit donations, the organization does accept them, but only from people who offer the money themselves.

The money that the FOP raises through events like the Jubilee and through donations goes to support a wide variety of areas in the community, Parker said, from supporting community projects like Woodward veteran’s memorial to helping local families in need to purchasing equipment for the police department. In addition, he said the FOP sponsors “a $500 scholarship that we give to area students that go on to study criminal justice in college.”

For more information about the FOP or about the upcoming Jubilee, Parker said citizens can simply contact any FOP member by calling the Woodward Police Department at (580) 254-8518.
