Ever wonder why that big game is called “homecoming?”
Because that is when the alumni come home!
Unfortunately the Woodward High School Alumni Association is having trouble getting in contact with many alumni as it prepares for the 2007 homecoming celebration.
According to alumni association member Kay Bell it is most difficult to get local alumni to attend events.
“They just don’t know what they are missing,” said Bell. “And people ask about them (at the events).”
For this year’s homecoming events the classes of honor are 1932,1937, 1942, 1947,1952, 1957, 1962, 1967, 1972, 1977, 1982, 1987, 1992, 1997 and 2002. All classes are encouraged to attend.
Alumni events begin Sept. 28 with registration at the Plains Indians and Pioneers Museum from 9 a.m. until 2:45 p.m.
The homecoming parade will begin at 3 p.m. and all classes of honor are encouraged to enter a float.
The Woodward High School homecoming football game will begin at 7:30 p.m.
Events will begin Sept. 29 with registration at the Woodward High School commons at 9 a.m. followed by an alumni brunch at 10:30 a.m.
Honored classes will have class photos taken after the brunch.
At 2 p.m. Dixie Waddell Tea will be held at the Plains Indians and Pioneers Museum.
The alumni will also have a fundraising booth at the Woodward Main Street Centennial Festival to help raise funds for the Woodward High School Alumni Scholarship.
Fewer than 200 alumni attended the last alumni event and the alumni association is hoping to have many more attend the upcoming homecoming celebration.
“We’d just like for them to come,” said Bell.
