County to discuss options

Woodward, Okla. — The Woodward County Commissioners will be discussing different options on burning after Gov. Mary Fallin lifted the state burn ban on Thursday

Commissioners will meet on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the courthouse. The meeting was moved from Monday due to the Columbus Day Holiday.

District 3 Commissioner Vernie Matt said they will be talking to the local fire chiefs and emergency management director Matt Lehenbauer about how the lifting of the ban would affect the county. They appear unlikely to adopt a burn ban for the county - an option that remains available even though the governor lifted the statewide ban.

"I believe we are as green as we are going to get, and now is the time to lift it," Matt said.

County residents wanting to do controlled burns will still need to call the fire department to let them know what and where they are burning said Tommy Roedell, commissioner for District 1.

"With the lower temps and the higher humidity, I don't think that we should put the county back under the ban," Roedell said.

Commissioners said they would make the decision Tuesday after hearing from fire and emergency officials.

The commissioners will also be discussing health benefits for county employees.

According to Roedell, the county is offered 3 different plans from Health Choice.

"These plans are all the same except the different premiums, and out of pocket expenses," Roedell said.

Roedell said that they may not take any action on this topic but he just wants the discussion started so that the employees could possibly get a choice on which of the plans would best suit them.

Other items on the agenda include 6 utility permit requests from OG&E for crossing roads in district 2, monthly highway expenditures for October, September county officer reports and opening of bids for the 6 month emulsion for all highway districts.
