Senior Center to host Spring Bazaar

The Woodward Senior Center will hold its annual Spring Bazaar from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 27.

“We’re going to have our bake sale like we always do,” said Brigetta Wilson, coordinator for the center. “Cakes, pies, breads, cinnamon rolls and more will be for sale,” such as jelly and homemade cookies, she said.

“For our luncheon, we’ll serve stew, cornbread, a beverage and dessert,” Wilson said, noting a fee will be charged for the meal.

Children younger than 3 will be served for free, she said.

During the event, which is usually well attended, a garage sale will also be held, in which items such as hand crocheted dish cloths will be sold, she said.

In addition, “we will sell memorial flowers,” Wilson said.

The memorial flowers are made of silk and created to form arrangements to be placed on grave sites on for Memorial Day, she said.

“Some of the women (who come to the Senior Center) have been working on flower sprays and other arrangements since last June,” Wilson said.

She noted the proceeds from the bake sale, garage sale and memorial flowers sale will go toward operating expenses incurred by the Senior Center, such as gas for the bus and a paycheck for the bus driver.

Though Wilson receives her own pay check from the city of Woodward, others at the Senior Center do not, she said, noting that some other expenses are covered by assistance from the United Fund.

“The rest comes by what we can raise,” Wilson said.
