Woodward, Okla. —
A former William S. Key inmate has received a felony count for aggravated assault and battery on a corrections officer after he broke the jaw of a unit manager at the prison.
According to Department of Corrections online records Timothy Alan Wilson, 33, is now being held in the Oklahoma State Penitentiary in McAlester.
The alleged assault occurred on May 29 after Wilson had approached prison staff “to ask for protective custody,” according to the affidavit filed with his charge.
Wilson allegedly told officers “that other offenders were out to get him” and he believed they had weapons hidden on the yard, the affidavit states. However when Unit Manager Carrie Bridges came to interview Wilson, “he spoke about a 'gay' issue, not giving any more information of this event or the weapons on the yard,” the affidavit states.
In speaking with Wilson, “Bridges could tell that the offender was under the influence,” the affidavit states. However, the document doesn't say what substance he allegedly was under the influence of.
According to the affidavit, the unit manager then sought assistance from a sergeant to see if he could get more information from Wilson. In doing so, she briefly left Wilson at an officer station while going to look for the sergeant, the affidavit states.
When she returned to the officer station, “She looked over her shoulder and saw a fist coming at her. Unit Manager Bridges turned to the right to avoid being hit in the face and was struck on the lower left jaw by offender Wilson's fist at which time she fell to the floor,” the affidavit states.
She hit her head on the concrete and “blacked out for an unknown amount of time,” the affidavit states. Bridges was then taken to the hospital and it was determined that her jaw had been broken in 2 places, her sinus cavity was fractured, and her dental plate was also broken, according to the affidavit. She had surgery on her jaw on June 8, the affidavit states.
After the alleged attack on Bridges, the affidavit states, “Offender Wilson was cuffed without resistance and taken to SHU [Segregated Housing Unit] immediately.”
According to court records, Wilson was serving time at the prison on a 10 year sentence for a conviction of attempted robbery with a weapon from a 2006 Muskogee County case.
