The man who escaped from William S. Key Correctional Center Monday morning turned himself in to authorities on Tuesday afternoon.
Richard J. Youtsey of Mangum called the correctional center’s deputy warden several times Tuesday morning saying he wanted to return said Linda Eike, warden’s assistant.
Youtsey was in Elk City when he made the phone calls to the correctional center. He said he would surrender as long as officers from Key were the ones who took him.
“He kept his end of the bargain and we did as well,” said Eike.
Officers from Williams S. Key arrived in Elk City Tuesday afternoon and took Youtsey back into custody.
Youtsey escaped Monday morning by running from a ditch into a waiting black 2009 Toyota Matrix.
Eike said that Youtsey’s girlfriend was in the Toyota Matrix when Youtsey made his escape.
The case will now be turned over to Woodward County. It will be up to the District Attorney’s office to file charges against Youtsey and his girlfriend.
