Woodward, Okla. — City Manager Alan Riffel discussed “several updates on the park” during Tuesday’s monthly meeting of the Woodward Parks and Beautification Board.
“One issue we’re working through steadily is Fuller Park,” Riffel said, noting that there are still “a variety of smaller things” that have yet to be completed at the baseball field, but “the major thing is the elevator there.”
“The contractors and architect met together yesterday (Monday)” to discuss the ongoing work at the field, he said, but noted that he still “do(es)n’t have a date of completion” for the project.
However, after the meeting, Riffel told The News that Fuller Park “will be done before May. It will be done before the Travelers’ season. We will have the Travelers (play) on it.”
Riffel said he expects some other projects at the park to be completed soon as well, including installation of aeration fountains and a paddle boat dock at Crystal Beach Lake and the installation of a new irrigation system at the municipal golf course.
He noted that the fountains, which are being installed by Davis Pipe and Supply, are expected “to be in with the next couple of weeks.”
“They said they have about two weeks of projects they need to complete and then they will be here,” Riffel told The News, adding “then they should only take a week to install.”
The city manager noted that the construction of the paddle boat dock, which is being handled by city crews, is also being delayed due to other ongoing projects. However, he said the dock should be in place “within the next 60 days.”
That is approximately the same time frame that Riffel is predicting for the installation of the new irrigation system at the golf course. He told the Parks Board members and representatives from the golf course who attended Tuesday’s meeting that the “target date is to get the bid awarded and have the project completed prior to Memorial Day.”
Riffel also discussed how the irrigation project had been made a priority over changes to the fairways and greens at the golf course because he had been informed by golf course officials that “the most urgent demand is water.”
However, other ongoing projects at the park will take a little longer to complete as Riffel noted that the target date for the new and improved Kiwanis train track is the start of Crystal Christmas.
