Rally offers real treats

“Our children are our future.”

That is why each fall the Children’s Arena of Services holds their annual Rally ‘Round Children, said event organizer Christi Waggoner.

She added, “That is why we want to have them out here getting educated.”

On Saturday over 600 children and their parents attended the event.  Over 33 organizations were represented at booths set up throughout the Woodward County Fairgrounds.  Parents were given information about resources available to them, while children had fun playing games, getting their faces painted and collecting candy.

The Girl Scouts, Western Plains Youth and Family Services, W.O.O.F. Pet Rescue, 4-H Club, Woodward Library, Tumble Dance and Cheer and the Mid-Day Ambucs were a few area organizations that participated.

The Mid-Day Ambucs are a group dedicated to creating mobility and independence for people with disabilities.

“We’re out here because we want to show the AmTrykes that are available to help children with disabilities,” said volunteer Darlene Westenhaver.

She said, the AmTrykes are purchased by the Ambucs, and given away for free to children who are recommended to the organization by therapists.

“We want to get the word out because we don’t want a child in the community going without one simply because they didn’t know about it,” said volunteer Sue Heinsohn.

W.O.O.F. Pet Rescue provides foster care for animals until a home is found for them.  One cat and six dogs were available for adoption during the event.

“We are thrilled that two dogs have been adopted today,” said volunteer Debbie Kinney.

Kinney, along with many other participants said they wanted to let people know what they do, let the children have a good time, and hope to find more volunteers.
