As a complement to the Woodward Elks Rodeo, a Western art show and sale is being held at the Josie Adams Cultural Center on Main Street.

The show is presented by the Woodward Arts and Theatre Council, owner of the Cultural Center and the Woodward Theatre next door.

Woodward Arts and Theatre Council director T.Z. Wright said the Western art show is a relatively new event.

“This is the fourth one we’ve done in conjunction with the rodeo,” he said.

Featured are mostly local artists, though some hail from surrounding areas and beyond.

“Some of them are from a little ways off,” Wright said. Artists from Woodward, Seminole, Yukon, Leedy and Shattuck were present, as well as some from as far away as Wichita, Kan.

Many of the artists whose work is featured have been to the show before, Wright said.

“We do have some repeats, but we have some new ones this year too,” he said.

Several kinds of art are on display and available for purchase, Wright said.

“We’ve got pottery, we’ve got watercolors...hand-woven baskets,” he said.

Hand-made jewelry, bronze sculptures, spurs, leather goods and furniture crafted from antlers and horns round out the list.

All the items on display are available for purchase, and Wright said there will be a prize drawing today.

“We’re gonna get ‘em to register and we’re gonna do the drawing tomorrow afternoon at 2:00,” Wright said. “They can do a little shopping on us.”

The Josie Adams Cultural Center is located at 816 Main St. The Western art show and sale will run from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. today. For more information about the show, call Woodward Arts and Theatre at 256-7120.
