Sharon, Okla. — Grady Stocking may be in kindergarten, but his knowledge about the presidents is anything but elementary.
Grady is 6-years-old and attends school at Sharon Mutual Elementary. He can name every president from Washington to Obama, and probably knows more presidential facts than most congressmen.
While his mother, Tamara Stocking, credits her son with having an excellent memory, she believes all children possess their own special interests.
“Kids will tell you what they are curious about, you just have to pay attention,” said Tamara. “It may not be the presidents or counting... but kids are pretty smart and they will give you clues.”
It all started during the 2008 presidential election when Grady was eating breakfast at Westside restaurant. The election coverage on TV had him asking his dad, Matt Stocking, questions about Obama and McCain.
Grady’s interest in the presidents prompted Matt to buy him a book about presidents. Matt made studying fun with his son, using books and flash cards, and said it only took a few months before Grady had all the president’s names and faces memorized.
Grady also knows who is the heaviest president and the tallest and shortest. His enthusiasm about the presidents is infectious and has people around him learning as well.
Grady looks forward to continuing his quest for presidential knowledge, and said one day he wants to visit Washington D.C. and also teach his baby brother, Knox, everything he knows.
