Fire-safe cigarettes

The capital letters FSC which appear above the bar code on this pack of Marlboro cigarettes indicate that the cigarettes are fire standard compliant, which means that they are rolled with a special banded paper that is considered fire safe. If no one is actively puffing on these types of cigarettes, then the bands will act as barriers and keep the cigarettes from continuously burning when left unattended, which can help prevent deadly fires that sometimes occur when cigarettes fall between couch cushions or among dry grass along the side of a road and then keep burning until hot enough to start a fire.
